In Part 3 of “what it’s like to work with Anita Inventories” we talk to Emeke:

Hello my name is Emeke Udema and I’m currently a Senior Inventory Clerk at Anita Inventories.

I started working for the company around May 2023 as an Inventory Administrative Clerk.  Before applying for the role, I was studying sports and exercise science at Nottingham Trent University. During my time at University I was struggling a lot. Making friends, interacting and even focusing on my school work became difficult after a while. It just felt like I was paying thousands of pounds to be generalised and treated like a secondary school student rather than a young adult.

As a fairly light skinned British African young man, it’s always been difficult to fit in. Growing up I felt like I never belonged to a certain race or group of people.

Joining Anita Inventories was a life changing point for me.  From improving my mindset and how I see
things.  Making me feel loved, wanted and part of a team.

It’s also opened doors for me in ways I couldn’t imagine. Being able to meet and learn from Investors, Directors, Landlords and Entrepreneurs of all ages has opened my mind to a life I never knew existed outside the walls of South East London.

As soon as I joined Anita, I was never judged or treated differently even though I was the youngest,
least experienced, and to be quite honest I didn’t feel like I fit in quite well at first. But having a
relatively small team full of people from different cultures and backgrounds has made working here so
much more insightful.

I’ve made more meaningful bonds with my colleagues than I’ve ever been able to make with people I’ve known even as far back as college. I’ve never felt disrespected, used or humiliated in any way.

Even when I have personal problems and I start to panic or feel overwhelmed, EVERYONE is always
very understanding and reassuring of things. Always helping out where they can and they always
check on me prior.

This honestly has been my favourite job till this date. It feels less like a job everyday and more like a
family business.
